Mohammed Suleiman (General)

Mohammed Suleiman ( Arabic محمد سليمان, DMG Muḥammad Sulaimān ; * 1958 or 1959 in Driekesh near Tartus ; † August 2, 2008 in Al Rimal Al Zahabiyeh near Tartus) was a Syrian brigadier general who was shot in an assassination attempt. In 2015, a National Security Agency document leaked by Edward Snowden revealed that the Israeli naval unit Shajetet was stuck 13 . Suleiman was killed while on the beach with his family.

Suleimann belonged to the religious community of the Alawites . He was considered a close confidante and advisor to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad . It is believed that he was the Syrian liaison with Hezbollah and that he was in close contact with Imad Mughniyya . He is also said to have been the main discussion partner of the International Atomic Energy Agency .
