The Moksha-Mordovian (Moksha мокшень, mokschen ) is the smaller of the two main dialects of the Mordovian language that the Volga Finnish group of Ugric Finno-languages heard. Mochan is used by about a third of the 750,000 Mordovian speakers.
Peculiarities of Mochan
In contrast to Ersjan , which only knows the vowel phonemes a, e, i, o, u , Mokshan also has the sounds ä and y (a reduced sound similar to Russian ы ) and is usually stressed on the first syllable. In addition, Mokshan has twelve cases (eleven in Ersyan). Greater Tatar influences can be found in Mokshan .
