Moledet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Moledet ( Hebrew מולדת, Homeland ) was a small nationalist party in Israel .

The party advocated promoting the voluntary resettlement of the Arab population of the West Bank to surrounding Arab countries (e.g. Jordan ).

Moledet was founded in 1988 by Rehavam Ze'evi . He was the victim of an attack by the PFLP in 2001 .

In 2001 Rabbi Benjamin Elon was elected chairman of Moledet. In 1999 the national parties Herut Ha-Hadasha and Tekumah together with Moledet formed the National Union .

In the 17th Knesset (2006-2009), Moledet was represented by two members of parliament in the Israeli parliament: Elon and Arieh Eldad . In 2001 Moledet became part of the Sharon government and Ze'evi became Minister of Tourism. After his death in October 2001, he was occupied by Elon. In 2004 Elon left the government to protest the withdrawal of the Israeli army and the dissolution of the Gush Katif (Israeli settlement bloc in the Gaza Strip ).

On November 3, 2008, the party decided that the National Union electoral list should be transformed into a right-wing party. This happened under the name HaBajit haJehudi . In the 2009 election, the Union won four seats; one of them went to Moledet member Ya'akov Katz .
