The Sassnitz pier lights are at the pier heads of the Sassnitz city port on the island of Rügen . The pier light have the function of the incoming ships from the sea the fairway to mean. The pier light on the west side consists of a steel lantern house on stilts on several feet, easily recognizable in red for incoming ships on the port side. The polygonal lantern house (dodecagon) was rebuilt in 1977 on the west pier and enables a fire height of 10 meters.
The first pier light from 1903 stood on the east pier, which was replaced by a lighthouse in 1937 . This lighthouse is an octagonal steel tower with a cantilevered, circumferential balcony on the lantern house. The more than 15 m high lighthouse has a green color with a white band and is therefore on the starboard side for incoming shipping. The fire carrier is 12 m above sea level and enables a fire height of 15 meters.
The pier fire or the lighthouse is a designated architectural monument (652).
The Sassnitz lighthouse - emblazoned - was integrated in a stylized form into the city arms of Sassnitz, but in white color with a red ribbon.
