Mona Küppers (* 1954 ) is a German sports official who advocates women's rights. She has held numerous honorary posts in Germany, including chair of the German Women's Council , an association of more than 60 women's associations with over 12 million women , since 2016 . She has been the first female president in the history of the German Sailing Association since 2017 .

Life

Mona Küppers is a trained business woman and works as an employee in the office for sports and movement sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

From 1991 to 2001 she was the head of the sailing department of the Seglergemeinschaft Hörstel 1978 e. V., since 2012 she has been a member of the Oberhausen Sailing Club (OSC).

In 2006 she became the youth chairwoman of the North Rhine-Westphalia Sailing Association and in 2014 its chairwoman. Associated with this office is membership in the sailing council of the German Sailing Association (DSV). As the women's representative of the Segler-Verband NRW, she developed several projects beyond the association from 2002 onwards and was named by the DSV and the DOSB as an expert on gender mainstreaming. Küppers is particularly committed to combating sexual violence in sports.

As the first woman in the 127-year history of the DSV, she was elected Vice-President in its Presidium in 2015. After Andreas Lochbrunner's resignation, she was appointed acting president on March 10, 2017, and Mona Küppers was elected the first female president in the association's history on November 25, 2017 at the DSV Sailing Day.

Mona Küppers has been a member of the speaker group for the DOSB Women's General Assembly of the German Olympic Sports Confederation since 2011 .

In the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia, Mona Küppers has the position of Vice President with responsibility for employee development and equality.

From 2012 to 2016 Mona Küppers was deputy chairwoman of the German Women's Council. On June 12, 2016, she was elected its chairman.

On July 5, 2018 Mona Küppers received the sports badge of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for outstanding services to sport.

On December 7, 2019, the German Olympic Sports Confederation awarded Mona Küppers the badge of honor.
