Lambert Zauner (born October 11, 1885 in Kematen an der Krems , † August 3, 1950 in Wels ) was an Austrian clergyman and from 1932 to 1946 abbot of Lambach Abbey .

Life

Zauner the Stiftsgymnasium visited Kremsmünster and entered 1907 as a novice in the Kremsmünster one. He studied theology in St. Florian and was ordained a priest in 1912. Afterwards he was novice master and custodian of the collegiate church until he was transferred as coadjutor to the Lambach monastery in 1932 , whose abbot Cölestin Baumgartner was no longer able to hold office for reasons of age. After his death in 1934 he was also nominally abbot.

Despite the difficult circumstances resulting from the global economic crisis , he was able to reduce the monastery's high debts and have the collegiate church restored. After the abolition of the monastery by the state authorities in 1941, he was evicted and went to Oberegg near Mindelheim . Meanwhile, the monastery was administered by pastor Benedikt Oberndorfer . After the end of the war, Zauner returned to Lambach in October 1945, but gave up in March 1946 and moved back to Kremsmünster. He died in 1950 in Wels Hospital after an operation.
