Groß Jauer ( Lower Sorbian Jawora ) was a district of the Altdöbern community in what is now the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district . The place was demolished in 1985/86 in favor of the Greifenhain open-cast lignite mine , 54 residents had to be relocated.

Groß Jauer was located in Niederlausitz between the towns of Altdöbern in the west and Drebkau in the east. The local area was demolished in the years 1985 to 1986 by the Greifenhain opencast mine in favor of lignite extraction.

history

Groß Jauer was first mentioned in a document in 1377. At that time the place name was yawer , in 1598 the village was mentioned as a large Jauerke . The place name comes from the Slavic language and means "place where maple grows".

After the Congress of Vienna , Groß Jauer came to the Kingdom of Prussia with all of Lower Lusatia . On January 1, 1926, Groß Jauer was incorporated into Altdöbern . On July 25, 1952, the Altdöbern community, and thus also Groß Jauer, became part of the newly formed Calau district in the Cottbus district .

There was a manor house in Groß Jauer .

In 1984 the remaining inhabitants of Groß Jauer were resettled. From 1985 to 1986 Groß Jauer was completely excavated in favor of the Greifenhain opencast mine . On 15 April 2008 which was close to the former location area vantage point edge bars inaugurated. In the Jawor's street in Altdöbern a plaque commemorates the site. The district of Groß Jauer is today in the Altdöberner See .
