Mongolyn Tömör Dsam
The Mongolyn Tömör Dsam (MTZ) (Монголын төмөр зам; Mongolian Railway ) is the state railway of Mongolia . It operates 80 percent of rail freight traffic and 30 percent of all passenger traffic within Mongolia.
Structure and tasks
Most of the rail traffic in Mongolia takes place on the railway lines of the Trans-Mongolian Railway . Main shareholder of this highway are each half the Russian and Mongolian state. In addition, there are other route networks in Mongolia, which have been continuously expanded since 2010 as part of extensive transport infrastructure projects as a joint venture with Chinese and Russian companies. As a special major project, a 547-kilometer rail link from Erdenet to Ovoot Tolgoi in the Gurwantes coal mine has been under construction since 2015 .
The MTZ fulfills the following tasks:
- Construction, maintenance and operation of the railway infrastructure
- Carrying out rail transport
- Construction, maintenance and operation of the railway vehicles
- Procurement of the railway material and administration of the capital generated from it
- Rental of vehicles to other railway companies
