Monica Bartheidel (born February 15, 1943 - † December 28, 2012 ) was a German disabled athlete .

Career

Monica Bartheidel wanted to do competitive sports as a wheelchair user. She chose table tennis as a sport, which she practiced both individually and in a team in the TT 3 group. Since she achieved excellent performance, she was soon appointed to the German national team for disabled sports and used in international competitions. At the 1992 Summer Paralympics , she won the silver medal behind the Dutchman Jolanda Paardekam and ahead of her teammate Ruth Lamsbach . In the team competition she won gold with Lamsbach. At the 1996 Summer Paralympics , she won the individual silver medal again. In the table tennis team competition, she and Monika Sikora , Gisela Pohle and Christiane Pape took first place and won a gold medal. For these successes, she and the team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf .

At the European Championships in 1995, 1997 and 1999, she was European champion in team competition with Beate Schippmann .

She was also there again at the Summer Paralympics 2000 . In these competitions she won a medal in her performance group TT 3 both in the individual and in the team: in the individual it was a bronze medal and in the team with Beate Schippmann silver.

At the age of 60 she was European champion in the individual competition at the European Championships in Zagreb.

Until recently, Monica Bartheidel belonged to the TuS Bergen association and trained the youngsters here.
