Monica De Coninck

Monica De Coninck (born March 21, 1956 in Ostend ) is a Belgian politician of the Socialist Partij Anders (sp.a). She is the former president of the Public Social Welfare Center (ÖSHZ) of Antwerp . From 2011 to 2014 De Coninck was federal employment minister in the Di Rupo government .

Life

Monica De Coninck studied morals and ethics at the University of Ghent (UGent, 1979) and began her professional career as a moral teacher at various schools. From 1988 to 1994 worked for the socialist youth organization Socialist Jeugdverbond .

She started out in politics as a consultant in various cabinets of ministers: first in 1995 with Leo Peeters (SP), then with Charles Picqué ( PS ). In addition, she was elected to the Antwerp Provincial Council in 1994. In 2001 she moved to the Antwerp City Council and was elected President of the city's Public Welfare Center. From 2007 onwards, De Coninck was Antwerp's alderman for social affairs.

Monica De Coninck made the leap into the federal government under Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo (PS) on December 6, 2011 as Minister of Employment. She was elected to the Chamber of Deputies on the occasion of the federal elections on May 25, 2014 .
