Monica Enid Dickens (born May 10, 1915 in London , † December 25, 1992 in Reading , England) was a British writer. She was a great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens and also wrote numerous books. Her Follyfoot series became particularly well known .

Life

Monica Dickens was born in London, where she attended drama school and then worked as a journalist. Her first literary works dealt with autobiographical topics: One Pair of Hands (1939) describes the relationship between rich employers and their subservient spirits. Mariana (1940) and One Pair of Feet (1942) were created against the backdrop of the war events - Dickens first worked as a nurse, then in an aircraft factory. In 1951, after her marriage to an American naval officer, the author moved to America, where she devoted herself to several social projects, but did not interrupt her writing. In the 1970s, the television series about the Follyfoot horse asylum and the accompanying book series were created, both of which were also distributed in Germany. In 1978 her autobiography An Open Book was published.
