Monica Evans

Monica Evans (born June 7, 1940 in Camberwell , London ) is a British former actress .

life and career

Monica Evans studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in the 1950s and then took on theater roles in London's West End, including representing Joan Plowright in the play The Rhinos . After taking on various television roles since 1960, she got one of the leading roles in the 1962 soap opera Compact , which played in the British middle class. She then moved to the USA and from 1965 played on New York Broadway together with Carole Shelley the "Fink Sisters" (English Pigeon Sisters ) in Neil Simon's hit comedy The Odd Couple . In the film adaptation A Strange Couple (1968), the actresses took on these roles again alongside Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau . In 1970, Evans and Shelley also played the Fink sisters again in the television series Männerwirtschaft based on the play . In the Disney cartoons Aristocats (as the goose Abigail Gabble , next to Shelley as her sister Amelia ) and Robin Hood (as Maid Marian, with Shelley as her servant Lady Kluck ) Evans could be heard in the original version with her voice.

Evans retired from the acting business in the 1970s to look after her two children. She was married first from 1962 to the actor Leo Maguire (1938-1992), then from 1973 until the divorce in 2010 with the BBC radio presenter Dave Cash (1942-2016). Evans lives in England again today.
