Joan Plowright
Joan Ann Plowright, Baroness Olivier , DBE , (born October 28, 1929 in Brigg , North Lincolnshire , England ) is a British actress and widow of the actor Laurence Olivier . In the course of her long career, she has received two Golden Globes and a Tony Award .
Life
Joan Plowright in 1961 for her role in the play A Taste of Honey with the Tony Award awarded, in 1986 she won the London Drama Theater Award for her role in House of Bernarda Alba . Her first marriage was from 1953 to 1960 with the actor Roger Gage. In her second marriage, she was married to actor Sir Laurence Olivier from 1961 until his death in 1989 , with whom she has three children: Richard (director), Tamsin and Julie-Kate Olivier (both actresses). In 1970 she was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as Commander . In 2004 she was ennobled as Lady Commander of the same order and from then on carried the name affix Lady . In 1971, her husband was raised to life peer as Baron Olivier , which is why she was given the higher-ranking courtesy title of Baroness Olivier instead of the lady title .
She won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in 1993 for her role in The Enchanted April and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Since the 2000s she has suffered from increasing macular degeneration , which led to blindness, because of which she announced the end of her acting career in 2014.
