Monika Enterprise is an independent label from Berlin. It was founded in 1997 by Gudrun Gut . The label is distributed in Germany by Indigo .

Label history

According to Gudrun Gut, she named the label after one of her two goldfish who committed suicide:

"Once upon a time I had two goldfishes. The suicide of one of them inspired me to call my label 'Monika Enterprise' - in memoriam to my beloved goldfish 'Monika' ... "

The published music ranges between electronic and industrial and is pop- affine, mostly by women. The first release was quarks limited to 500 copies 7 "single again Come / Knocked . The piece quickly became a hit in the indie scene and was re-released in a Japanese version two years later as Kikyo . The label's first long player followed in October of the same year with the Quarks album Heimat .

The piece Kaltes Klares Wasser , das Gut 1981 with their band Malaria! recorded, was released in 2000 by Monika Enterprise in a remix of Chicks on Speed and reached the German Top 20.

Other albums were released by Barbara Morgenstern ( Fjords , 2000), Masha Qrella ( Luck , 2002), Contriva ( If You Had Stayed ... , 2003), Cobra Killer ( 76/77 , 2004) and James Figurine ( Mistake Mistake Mistake Mistake , 2006).

In 2007 Gudrun Gut's album I Put A Record On was released , which received positive reviews.

Under the name “Monika Werkstatt”, the label organizes workshops and discussions across Europe. The focus is on interaction with the audience; current works are presented as “work in progress”. A sampler of the same name was released in 2017 for the 20th anniversary of the label: For this, artists first worked together in Gudrun Gut's guest house and then completed the tracks individually.
