The founding members were Gudrun Gut and Bettina Köster . The malaria! Video clip Geld / Money by Brigitte Bühler shows experimental film art.
history
Malaria commuted musically! between classic dark wave and cool, danceable avant-garde music. Her best-known title is Cold Clear Water . Originally only conceived for live presentation, the track was created as a sideline production on a tour in Brussels and quickly developed into an underground hit, which was re-set to music in numerous cover versions around the turn of the millennium - including by Barbara Morgenstern and Chicks on Speed .
Malaria played with Nina Hagen ! in New York's Studio 54 and with John Cale in the Mudd Club. Malaria! was on tour with Siouxsie and the Banshees , New Order and The Birthday Party , with whom they played in the New York “Danceteria”, in the Parisian “Les Bains Douches”, in the London Batcave and again and again in the SO36 in Kreuzberg / Berlin. Malaria! influenced young girl bands, such as "Chicks on Speed", who published a cover version of Malaria's 1981 hit Kaltes Klares Wasser , whose lyricist is Köster.
In the mid-1980s, malaria introduced! the activities for the time being and only published in 1992, shrunk to the Trio Köster-Gut-Duursma, new material under the title Elation .
