Monkey Bay is a city with a natural harbor on southern Lake Malawi . The port is a bay that is closed except for the gully at the entrance.
Lake Malawi National Park extends north to the tip of the Cape MacLear Peninsula . This park features monkeys, especially baboons , on very rocky terrain . Monkey Bay is regularly served by the lake's ferry, the MS Ilala. From here there is a paved road to Liwonde , where there is a connection to the Malawian railway network and the paved roads to Zomba and Blantyre as well as to Dedza and Lilongwe .
