Monopoly Deal is a card game based on the Monopoly board game . The game was released in 2009 as a standalone game by the toy publisher Hasbro and was later published internationally by various publishers. At the à la carte price card game in 2009 the game was elected to sixth place.

Furnishing

In addition to the instructions and 4 cards with the short rules, the game consists of 106 cards of different types. The focus is on 28 street cards that correspond to the streets, train stations and supply works of the classic Monopoly , and the 11 joker property cards that can be built into the sets to be discarded. There are also 42 event cards, 3 house and 2 hotel cards and 20 money cards with values from 1 M to 10 M.

Style of play

In terms of content, the game is based on Monopoly , with the main objective being to get three complete street sets in your own display and thus to win the game. To prepare for the game, the cards are shuffled well, then five cards are dealt to each player. The players take these cards in hand without showing them to their fellow players. The remaining cards are placed in the middle of the game as a draw pile, and a discard pile is created next to it in the course of the game.

The game begins with a starting player (according to the rules, the youngest player), then all players play in clockwise order. At the beginning of his turn, the active player draws two cards from the draw pile (or five, if he has no more cards in hand at the beginning of his turn). He can then play up to three cards from his hand. He has three options for each of the three cards and independently of one another:

  1. Play cash: The player places a cash card face up in his display. He can either take a real money card or an event card, which then only counts its monetary value for the rest of the game.
  2. Play road card: The player places a road card of any color in his display. If he already has cards of the same color on display, he places them on top of the cards already on display. Instead of a real road card, he can also play a joker card and place it on an existing deck. There are two types of jokers: either the joker shows two colors and can be used for one of these colors, or it shows all colors and can be used as desired.
  3. Play event card : The player chooses an event card and reads it out loud, the text is followed and the card is discarded. With the help of the event cards, a player can receive additional cards (“go over the start”), as well as street cards or money from the opponents. A player also receives the rent for the streets on display from the event cards; the number of street cards on display and their value determine the rent due, which must be paid by one or all opponents. Special event cards are the house and hotel cards, which are each placed on a street set and greatly increase the rents to be paid for these sets.

Whenever a player has to pay money, he can only do this with cards in his display. He can settle the amount to be paid either with the cash on display or with the value of the road maps according to the imprint. If a player cannot pay the full amount with his expenses, he pays as much as he can, there are no debts. However, there is also no change that is returned in the event of overpayments.

The game ends as soon as a player has three complete street sets of different colors in his display at the end of his turn. That player wins the game.
