Monster House (AKA Monster House ) was an American television show in which a team of craftsmen got five days to find a home for a specified by its owners motto remodel. The show was moderated by Steve Watson, who is also the foreman of the craftsmen. In the foreground of the program are the mostly unusual conversions, the functioning of the craftsmen as a unit and the reaction of the homeowner to what is happening in front of the house.

The show ran from 2003 until it was discontinued in 2006 on the Discovery Channel and comprised 3 seasons with a total of 53 episodes. In Germany, the episodes have been on DMAX since 2006 .

Rules and procedure

The homeowners specify a topic, e.g. B. Pirates , however, have no direct influence on what exactly is rebuilt. During the renovation, they move into a caravan parked in front of the house and are not allowed to watch the work on or in the house.

First of all, various projects appropriate to the topic are planned, which must be implemented by the craftsmen who then appear. These, usually 5 in number and unknown to each other, now have 5 days to do this. If they manage to meet the deadline, they receive various tools worth around 7500 US dollars; if they fail, the production management hires a company to do the rest of the work. After the renovation work, a decoration team appears, which cleans the house and furnishes it according to the theme. Finally, the owners are allowed to enter their house again and examine the changes.
