The Mont des Alouettes (German translation: Lerchenberg) is a 232 m high mountain near Les Herbiers , in the Vendée department , France.
history
Seven windmills were built on this mountain in the 16th century. Today three are still preserved, one of them is functional. At the top of the mountain is a 19th century chapel, which was built on behalf of Maria Karolina Duchess von Berry .
Sports
The Mont des Alouettes was the destination of the first stage of the 2011 Tour de France .
