Monte Evermann , also Cerro Evermann , is the highest point of a shield volcano that forms the island of Socorro , part of Mexico . It has a crater with dimensions of about 4.5 × 3.8 km and reaches a height of 1050 m . The mountain is named after Barton Warren Evermann , the director of the California Academy of Sciences , who promoted the scientific exploration of Socorro Island at the beginning of the 20th century.
Volcanic activities were already recorded in the 19th century , the last known eruptions of the volcano took place in 1951 and from 1993 to 1994.
