Legend of the naming
The inhabitants of the area call the place Pizzo della Caranca . The name Monte Pisanino comes from a legend in which two deserted Pisan soldiers flee towards Garfagnana. The first dies on the run, the second finds refuge with a local family injured. The daughter of the family falls in love with the soldier, who dies shortly afterwards. According to legend, the mountain was formed when the grieving lover, every time she visited his grave, lost a tear that turned into a stone, thus forming the mountain, which from there on was called The Pisanino.
