Monte prose

The Monte Prosa is a mountain in the Gotthard massif .

The mountain is 2737  m above sea level. M. high and is located northeast of the Gotthard Pass in the area of ​​the Ticino community of Airolo . It can be climbed via the northeast ridge. The mountain is built from sub-Triassic granite . The prose granite presented here is a variety of rotondo granite .

The Gotthard road tunnel runs around 1000 meters deeper than the Gotthard pass under the mountain, and the Sasso da Pigna fortress, which can be reached from the pass, has been built into Monte Prosa.

To the east of the mountain is the Lago della Sella reservoir .

The “Two prongs protrude into the blue of the air” mentioned by Friedrich Schiller in his “Ber Link” from 1804 are Monte Prosa and Fibbia .
