Montes Teneriffe is a group of mountains in the northern hemisphere and the side of the moon facing the earth . It is named after Tenerife , one of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean . It has an average diameter of about 110 kilometers. The highest mountains are up to 2400 meters high.
In contrast to their earthly namesakes, the Tenerife Mountains of the Moon are not surrounded by an ocean, but by the Mare Imbrium , the sea of rain. They protrude from the northern section of its basalt plain. To the west of them rise from it the Montes Recti and in the southeast the single Mons Pico .
