The Montevideo Cricket Club ( MVCC ) is a Uruguayan sports club best known for its rugby division.
history
The club was founded on July 18, 1861 as the successor to the Victoria Cricket Club . According to the "Museum of Rugby Twickenham", the club originally intended for the practice of cricket is the eighth oldest rugby club in the world. It was also the first club outside of Europe to play rugby. The place of foundation was the property in Montevideo, on which the Hospital Militar is located today . The property that housed the Montevideo Cricket Club was named "La Blanqueada" after the neighborhood of the same name or was known in the English community as "The English Ground". The first president at the time was J. Pickering . The association moved its headquarters, which was originally located in the capital, Montevideo , to Solymar, a few kilometers to the east, in 1996 after having moved several times .
Rugby team
The team of the Montevideo Cricket Club plays in the 2010/11 season in the Uruguayan top division, the Primera División. Alejandro Fynn Howard has been president of the club since 2004 .
