The Minimoog Voyager is an analog monophonic synthesizer made by Moog Music Inc. ( Asheville , North Carolina ) and is the successor to the Minimoog . The electronics were largely developed by Robert Moog . The software for saving the parameters and the digital functions was developed by Rudi Linhard and was last published in December 2014 in an improved version.

General

In contrast to its predecessor, the sound parameters of the original Voyager version are digitally controlled, which means that the settings can be saved. However, the sound generation and signal routings are completely analog. With the Voyager Old School there was also a variant on the market in which the sound parameters are controlled analogously and the sound parameters cannot be saved.

The Voyager has three oscillators for different waveforms and a noise generator (white / pink noise). The third oscillator can also be used as an additional LFO .

The signals can be mixed and then pass through the analog filter section and the voltage controlled amplifier . As with the Minimoog, external audio signals can be fed in via a separate channel in the mixer section.

The original model had 128 memory locations for storing sound settings. After a hardware update, the number was increased to 7 sound banks, each with 128 memory locations, whereby 896 sounds can be saved.

In addition to the pitch and modulation wheel , the Voyager has a touch pad that reacts to position, contact and contact surface , with which various parameters of the sound can be influenced. In addition to the switches and knobs on the front panel, many additional settings are possible via the menu system (except in the old school version). Both filters can be switched to 1, 2, 3 or 4 pole characteristics independently of each other.

Due to significant improvements in the oscillator design with regard to temperature compensation, the Minimoog Voyager is particularly stable in tuning.
