Moon. is an eroge and ren'ai adventure game that was developed by the Japanese game developer Tactics , a brand of the Nexton company . It was first published on November 21, 1997 for Windows 95 on the PC on CD-ROM . The developers themselves described it as a "heart-reaching adventure" ( Japanese 心 に 届 く AVG, Kokoro ni Todoku AVG ). The player slips into the role of the young Ikumi Amasawa, who wants to solve the death of her mother and gets involved in the machinations of the FARGO organization . In doing so, she builds close relationships with the female heroines. Moon. The choice of a female protagonist stands out from the crowd of Ren'ai adventures, which mainly rely on a male main character.

Game mechanics

Moon. requires, as usual for Ren'ai-Adventure, only a little interaction from the player, who is busy reading the displayed texts most of the time. The presentation is supported by background graphics of the scenes, characters in the style of a manga and background music adapted to the situation. The player slips into the role of the protagonist who is mainly in dialogue with the other characters, but also reveals her inner thoughts and feelings. At decision points, you can choose from several options (usually two or three) at variable intervals. The player thus steers the plot in a certain direction in order to take different storylines when playing through it several times and to find paths to erotic content. In the meantime, this concept is easily interrupted when the player has to move from one place to another. To do this, he clicks through the corridors and landscapes of the game world.

The game is divided into 20 sections with their own title in English, which are presented in black letters, interrupted by individually highlighted red letters. There are seven possible endings, one of which is called the "real ending". In two cases there is an ordinary ending and in the remaining four cases a bad ending. In the original version, a bonus role-playing game was built in, which appeared in the main menu after Moon. was played through at least once. This part has been removed from the DVD version that has been completely set to music.

Overview of the plot

Ikumi Amasawa ( 天 沢 郁 未 , Amasawa Ikumi , voice actor ( Seiyū ): Ruru), the young protagonist, finds out that the organization FARGO is related to the death of her mother Miyoko ( 天 沢 未 夜 子 , Amasawa Miyoko ). Miyoko died under mysterious circumstances six years before the plot began. In order to clarify this, Ikumi also tries to join the organization and visits a seminar with a group of ten girls in order to be accepted. On the joint trip to FARGO, she meets two girls who are pursuing similar goals. These are Haruka Mima ( 巳 間 晴 香 , Mima Haruka , Seiyū: Aya), who wants to protect her older brother, and Yui Nakura ( 名 倉 由 依 , Nakura Yui , Seiyū: Miya Serizono ), who is looking for her big sister Yuri ( 名 倉 友 里 , Nakura Yuri , Seiyū: Komugi Nishida ) is. Her assigned room is shared by Ikumi boys "Shōnen" ( 少年 , Seiyū: Arashi Tsunami) who tells her a lot about her mother's past and whose real name is never given. Together with her new friends, she tries to find out the secrets of the organization. They stand opposite the Yōko Kanume ( 鹿 沼 葉子 , Kanume Yōko , Seiyū: Satomi Kodama ) and Tsuki ( , English "Moon"), antagonist and leader of FARGO, who is convinced of the belief in the organization . Depending on the player's selection, scenarios with very different endings result, which also present past events differently.

reception

The sales figures were not above average and so the two variants Moon.DVD and Moon.Limited only appeared briefly in the weekly sales charts of the 50 best-selling Bishōjo games in Japan.

Though Moon. It was not a great success, it laid the foundations for the game developer Key , who later emerged from Tactics , who was founded by a large number of those involved after completing the follow-up work One - Kagayaku Kisetsu e and became internationally known through the works Kanon , Air , Clannad and their adaptations . In many of the games of Key can be found again and again cameo appearances of characters of earlier works. This is how the characters from Moon find themselves . for example in One: Kagayaku Kisetsu e at a bar again. Ayu Tsukimiya from Kanon, for example, is shocked by a movie poster for a horror film with a clear reference to Moon.
