Moon over Naples is a song written by Bert Kaempfert that was sung by Al Martino in 1966 under the title Spanish Eyes and became an international hit.

First, the song was released in 1965 as an instrumental version on Kaempfert's album The Magic Music of Far Away Places on Decca Records . The piece reached number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and number 1 on the Billboard Easy Listening charts. Bert Kaempfert won a BMI Award in 1968 for the composition.

For a vocal version of the song, which is now called Spanish Eyes and a text by Eddie Snyder , Kaempfert first worked with Freddy Quinn . But a dispute between the record companies Quinns and Kaempferts ended the collaboration. In the version by Al Martino , the song became an internationally successful hit in 1966 and a number one hit in Belgium . The song became Al Martino's signature song. Over 800,000 singles were sold in Germany alone. The album of the same name became Martino's third top ten album.

A German version with the title Rot ist der Wein entered the charts in 1966, sung by Ivo Robić . As Spanish Eyes the song has been covered many times, including by Elvis Presley , Engelbert Humperdinck , Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias , Wayne Newton and Faith No More .
