Moorhead (also called Moorehead ) is a small town in Sunflower County in the US state of Mississippi in the United States . At the 2000 census , the population was 2,573.
In the southwest of the city there is a railway cross made famous by a blues song ("Where the Southern cross the Dog"): The Illinois Central (formerly called "Southern") crosses the Yazoo / Delta Railroad ("Yellow Dog"), a route here which today belongs to the Columbus and Greenville Railroad .
Demographics
Moorhead's 2,573 residents in the 2000 census lived in 688 households; including 520 families. The population density was 770 per km². 720 residential units were recorded in the village. Among the population, 79.0% were African American, 20.4% White, and 0.6% from other races; 0.1% said they belonged to several ethnic groups.
The average household size was 3.14 and the average family size was 3.67.
The population was divided into 28.1% under 18 years of age, 26.7% from 18 to 24 years of age, 21.3% from 25 to 44 years of age, 16.3% from 45 to 64 years of age and 7.7% from 65 years of age or older. The median age of 22 years was well below the US-wide average of 35 years.
