A mop (plural mopps , verb form moppen or aufmoppen ; in Switzerland fluff ) is a device for dry cleaning of smooth floors , especially for picking up loose dust and lint .

A modern mop consists of a base plate with a removable textile cover with about 10 cm long fringes. The base plate is hinged to a long handle so that dust can also be reached under furniture. Their width and thus that of the cover varies from a few decimeters for private use to far more than a meter for commercial use.

The dust bound in the mop is shaken out of the mop by turning and swiveling quickly, or the mop is brushed out. The textile cover of the mop can also be washed or professionally cleaned.

To distinguish from the mop, the mop , the operation of a mop with the wet floor cleaning by scrubbing brush and Feudel combined (cloths).
