Development and use

The type BB was designed by Morane-Saulnier in 1915.

150 aircraft on order, the powerful 110 hp Le Rhone - rotary engines should be equipped, only 94 were delivered and fitted due to delivery problems with the weaker 80-horsepower Le Rhone engine. As an experiment, an airplane with a water-cooled Hispano-Suiza engine was built, which was named Morane-Saulnier type BH .

The aircraft were used by Squadrons 1, 3 and 60 of the Royal Flying Corps and 201, 203 and 204 of the Royal Naval Air Service . Some of the Morane-Saulnier BBs, equipped with a machine gun for the observer, were also armed with an additional machine gun for the pilot mounted above the upper wing.

Some BB were also delivered to the Imperial Air Fleet in Russia and the Spanish Air Force.
