The Morane-Saulnier MS.225 was a French all-metal fighter aircraft from 1932. The design basis of this first French fighter with a compressor -assisted radial engine was the Nieuport-Delage 629 .

history

The machine was first presented in 1932 at the Salon de l'aéronautique aircraft exhibition in Paris and went into series production immediately after successful testing. Of the 75 aircraft produced, 53 went to the Air Force from 1933, where they were used in class C.1 (monoplane). From February 1934, another 16 machines were delivered to the Navy and three machines to the Chinese Air Force. At the beginning of the Second World War , around 20 machines were still operational, and the last machines were scrapped by mid-1940.

properties

The all-metal - Hochdecker with slightly swept wings and compared with the previous model MS.224.01 reinforced hull was in the original version of a Gnome 9Krsd - radial engine with compressor driven. The non-retractable tail wheel undercarriage with covered wheels had a noticeably large track width.

use

The MS.225 were stationed with the 7th Jagdgeschwader (escadre) in Dijon and in two squadrons with the 42nd squadron in Reims . In 1936/37 it was gradually withdrawn from the front row of fighter planes. The naval aviation squadron 3C1 on the Marignane used the aircraft until 1936, after which it was handed over to Jagdgruppe 11/8. Most recently, the flight school in Salon-de-Provence received five machines.
