Morgan Groth

Morgan Groth (born August 31, 1943 in Martinez (California) ) is a former American medium stretcher who took part in the 1964 Olympic Games .

Life

After a successful career at Alhambra High School in Martinez, Groth received an athletic scholarship from Oregon State University under coach Sam Bell , who made him win the Olympic Trials as a 21-year-old with high-intensity tempo runs . At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in October 1964, however, he was no longer in good shape because he had incorrectly periodized . Oregon State University had also set a world record with him with 7: 18.9 minutes in the 4-by-880-yard relay and he won the race for the ten best American mile runners of the year in Los Angeles . On August 15, 1964, he had also won an invitation race in Kingston (Jamaica) in a personal best of 1: 45.7 minutes. After college, he volunteered for the US Marine Corps and started for the Quantico Marines. He then worked as an insurance broker in West Linn, Oregon , a southern suburb of Portland , Oregon , until his retirement .
