Morgedal is a village in the municipality of Kviteseid , which is part of the Norwegian province of Vestfold og Telemark . Morgedal is also called the “cradle of skiing”.

Morgedal is the birthplace of the famous ski pioneer Sondre Norheim , who among other things revolutionized ski bindings and introduced steel-reinforced skis.

The Olympic flames for the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo , the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley and the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer were lit on the kitchen stove in Sondre Norheim's birthplace .
