Moritz German (Chasan)
Moritz Deutsch (born December 16, 1818 in Nikolsburg (South Moravia); † February 27, 1892 in Breslau ) was a German chasan (cantor) and sacred musician who made a name for himself in enhancing Jewish ritual chant .
Moritz Deutsch studied music at the Vienna Conservatory and synagogue music with Salomon Sulzer . In 1842 he got a job as second cantor at the City Temple in Vienna. From 1844 until his death he was cantor of the synagogue in Breslau. He also founded a cantor school and wrote, among other things, “Breslau Synagogue Chants” and “Pre-Prayer School”.
Moritz Deutsch was the father of the industrialist Felix Deutsch .
