Moritz Karasowski

Moritz Karasowski , also Moritz Karasowsky , actually Maurycy Karasowski (born September 22, 1823 in Warsaw , † April 20, 1892 in Dresden ) was a Polish cellist, composer and music writer.

Life

Karasowski took piano and cello lessons from Valentin Kratzer and became a cellist in the orchestra of the Great Opera in Warsaw in 1851. In 1858 and 1860 he went on study trips that took him to Berlin , Vienna , Dresden , Munich , Cologne and Paris . From 1862 until his death he was a member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle in Dresden and was entitled "Royal Saxon Chamber Musician".

He published some works for violoncello and piano and also emerged as a music writer. His publications on Frédéric Chopin , with whose family he was friends, are of lasting importance .
