Moritz Marwede (born August 25, 1851 in Bremen , † April 11, 1932 in Hanover ) was a German entrepreneur.

biography

Marwede was the uncle of Hermann Marwede ( Beck’s ). He attended the commercial school in Bremen and became a businessman. On November 7, 1873, he took the citizenship oath in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. Moritz Marwede founded the "factory for peat litter with locomobile operation" in Neustadt near Hanover in 1882 . He later discovered that peat moss (Sphagnum) from the local moors has antiseptic properties. Thereupon he switched the production and from 1888 on called the company "Factory for Surgical Moss Preparations".

The products are: bandage moss, moss pillows, moss mattresses, mattress pads and sanitary napkins . In 1917 Moritz Marwede invented the moss insoles , which he sold under the protected name of Marwede's moss soles . The production of the moss soles was stopped in 1991.
