history

In the 9th century, ownership of the Fulda monastery in villa Bergerede in pago Altgewe is recorded. In 1109 the place Bergeriden is called, in 1370 as Easter Bergereden . The old forms of the name denote a reed on the mountain and comes from the location of the place in a drained moor area on the Hainleite.

The church building was completed around 1587 according to an inscription. It is believed that a castle previously stood on the site. Remains of a fortification and depressions of trenches and hollows are still present. But it could also have been a fortified mansion.

The originally independent village had been part of the large community of Schernberg formed at that time since January 1, 1996 , which in turn was incorporated into the town of Sondershausen on December 1, 2007.

On March 25, 2016, the 130th anniversary of the Großberndtener Kohlenschlagens (also called farmer's golf) took place.
