Kleinberndten (also Klein-Berndten ) is a district of the district town of Sondershausen in the Kyffhäuserkreis ( Thuringia ) with around 300 inhabitants.

location

The place is on the southern roof of the Hainleite east of the upper Helbetal .

To the north-west of the village is Bleicherode , to the south-east of Großberndten , and to the south-west of Holzthaleben .

history

The place was first mentioned in a deed of donation from the Reinhardsbrunn monastery as a secondary Peregeriedon . Until the current form of name emerged from around 1600, various forms of name such as Westernbergreden , Western Berthen , Western Berden and Klein Berden appeared.

The church of St. Johannis burned down with the tower in 1810 and was rebuilt in autumn 1815, partly using the old masonry. The tower was never rebuilt and the bells were hung in a house. The simply built church has windows in the arch and was consecrated in 1819.

“The small church with tower, built around 1580, fell victim to a fire in 1810, caused by a boy Christian Lutze († 1872). The poor residents could not build a tower again. "

On May 3, 1924, the place was hit by a heavy windpipe that severely damaged at least 50 houses.

After the occupation of the place by US soldiers in early April 1945, they committed violence against captured Wehrmacht members. Two of them were found dead by the villagers the next morning.

Kleinberndten belonged to the County of Hohenstein until 1950 .

The originally independent village became a district of the large community of Schernberg on January 1, 1996 , which in turn was incorporated into the town of Sondershausen on December 1, 2007.
