Morobe is a small coastal village on Morobe Bay in the south of Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea .
Morobe was founded in 1909 as the German government station Adolfhafen , in the south of Kaiser-Wilhelmsland ( German New Guinea ). The station was intended to monitor border traffic with the territory of Papua .
Two roads led inland from Morobe in 1914, from Morobe via Mou to Piowaria and from Majama via Garaina to Ono. Except for a few gold prospectors and birds of paradise hunters, there were no European branches in the area of the station until the end of the German colonial era.
During the First World War , on January 11, 1915, Australian troops occupied Morobe as the last of the German government stations. In 1942, during World War II , the site was conquered by the Imperial Japanese troops. On April 3, 1943, the US Army liberated Morobe.
Morobe has an airfield, Morobe Airport.
