The Morrisville – Trenton Railroad Bridge is an arched railway bridge over the Delaware River between Morrisville in Pennsylvania and Trenton in New Jersey .
The bridge was commissioned by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1903 and is part of the Northeast Corridor . It runs four tracks that are now used by Amtrak , SEPTA and New Jersey Transit . The last arch of the bridge on the Trenton side spans one direction of the John Fitch Way on New Jersey Route 29 .
The bridge has 18 arches with a span of 18.3 m each and a total length of 376 m. For reasons of symmetry, two of the 16 pillars are 6.7 m wide, while the remaining pillars are 2.4 m wide. This optically divides the 18 arches into three groups of six arches each. The pillars are not aligned at 90 ° to the bridge, but at an angle of 71.5 °. This was achieved by dividing the arches into 12 individual arch segments that are slightly offset from one another.
The Morrisville – Trenton Railroad Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 (NRHP #: 79001502).
