The Morse Point is a headland on the north coast of South Georgia . It marks the entrance to Antarctic Bay to the east .
The headland is first shown on maps from around 1900. Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations did a rough mapping between 1925 and 1931. The South Georgia Survey re- mapped it between 1951 and 1952. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1955 after the British sealer Morse , who was used for seal hunting in the waters around South Georgia between 1799 and 1800. He was anchored in Antarctic Bay when he was met by the American explorer Edmund Fanning , who wrote a paper on this encounter.
