Moshe Lion , ( Hebrew משה ליאון, Born October 6, 1961 in Giv'atajim ) is an Israeli businessman, leader and politician of the local religious-national party Yerushalayim Shelanu. Since December 4, 2018 he is the mayor of Jerusalem , succeeding Nir Barkat . Lion is the first Sephardic mayor of the Israeli capital.

Life

Lion served in the military rabbinate and studied economics and accounting at Bar Ilan University .

After the conclusion of the 1990 CPA - auditors took off, he founded in 1991 with other financial advisory Yitzhaki & Co.

During his first administration (1996–1999) he worked as economic advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and was head of the Israeli Railways from 2003 to 2006 and head of the Jerusalem Economic Development Agency in 2008.

In 2013, as a representative of the Likud party, he tried unsuccessfully to become mayor of Jerusalem, and in the same year he became a member of the Jerusalem city council. Since 2014 he has also been chairman of the board of the Mayanei HaYeshua medical center in Bnei Berak . In 2017 he left the consulting company he co-founded.

Moshe Lion is married and has four children.
