Moscow Strikes Back is based on the Soviet documentary film Разгром немецких войск под Москвой (German: The devastating defeat of the German troops in front of Moscow ), which was edited for the US release. For example, it was provided with an English text spoken by actor Edward G. Robinson . In addition, scenes from pre-war Moscow were removed and the original film shortened to 55 minutes.
The film depicts the battle for Moscow during the German-Soviet War in World War II and presents the attack in a historical context.
Awards
The film, along with three other films, was awarded an Oscar for best documentary at the 1943 Academy Awards . As early as 1942, the film received the New York Film Critics Circle Award for best documentary.
In addition, the original Soviet version was awarded the State Prize of the USSR .
