Moses ben Joshua of Narbonne

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mose ben Josua von Narbonne (* 1300 in Perpignan ; † 1362 , also Moses Narboni ) was a Jewish scholar of the 14th century.

He worked in Perpignan and Spain as a doctor , philosopher and exegete , spoke Arabic and was an important cultural mediator.

He took the line of Moses ben Maimon and wrote a commentary on his main work, Leader of the Undecided . In addition, he was strongly influenced by Averroes , on whom he also wrote a commentary, and took up cabalistic thoughts, trying to reconcile the two. He also wrote commentaries on al-Ghazālī and Ibn Tufail . The comment on the latter "enjoyed great popularity among educated Jews of the time, as can be inferred from the impressive number of surviving manuscripts of this work."

Yohanan Alemanno later wrote a super commentary on Narboni's commentary, presumably on behalf of Pico .
