Moses ben Joseph di Trani

Moses ben Joseph di Trani (the elder) (* 1505 in Thessaloniki , † 1585 in Jerusalem ; Hebrew משה מטראני ), called מבי"ט ( Mabit ) was a Talmud scholar of the 16th century.

His father fled from Puglia to Thessaloniki three years before he was born . As a child, Moses was sent to Hadrianopel (Edirne) to study the Talmud under his uncle Aaron . At the age of 16 he went to Safed and continued his studies under Jacob Berab . In 1525 he became rabbi there ; In 1535 he went to Jerusalem .
