The church

The Visigoth church, which was preserved in low wall sections and excavated in 1992 and reached a length of around 20.0 m, consisted of block-reinforced rubble. It was a cruciform building with an anteroom to the west and two gates from the southern cross arm to the east and west, which, like the south arm itself, were used for burial purposes. The position of the altar can still be seen in the horseshoe-shaped apse . In terms of construction technology, disposition and apse shape, the structure is similar to the church of Valdecebadar near Olivenza on the Spanish side of the borderwhich is dated to the early 7th century. The Câmara Municipal von Portel plans to preserve the scientifically developed site since 1992.
