Mother's Army

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mother's Army was a joint project by four genre-known musicians that was founded in 1993.

history

The singer was Joe Lynn Turner (ex- Rainbow and -Deep Purple ). He was only asked to participate in the project shortly before the recording of the debut album . Ex- Night Ranger guitarist Jeff Watson played the guitar . The rhythm section was ex-Rainbow bassist Bob Daisley and ex- vanilla fudge drummer Carmine Appice , who were part of Ozzy Osbourne's band and who had also supported Watson on his solo album. The latter, however, was replaced by ex- Whitesnake and Journey man Aynsley Dunbar from 1998 because of his temporary work for Ronnie James Dio . Turner reported to Metal Hammer, however, that Appices Manager was also Mother's Army manager and embezzled money, which is why they both had to leave.

This supergroup recorded three albums, Mothers Army in 1993, Planet Earth in 1997 (released in March 1998 on the Nuremberg label USG) and Fire on the Moon in 1998 (released in November). In 2005 it was rumored that a new edition of the band was imminent, but Turner had put together a completely new band in 2006 (with Carmine Appice's brother Vinny on drums), so they got a new name with “Big Noise”.

style

The USG promotion department rated Planet Earth as calm and atmospheric, while it attributed hard rock qualities to Fire on the Moon . Discogs.com chose the hard rock assignment both times . Rockdetector.com claims Melodic Rock.

Andreas Schöwe from Metal Hammer heard “classic US hard rock” at Fire on the Moon , which Turner claims to have brought out again after his predecessor had drifted into “esoteric-spiritual” realms by conjuring up his bandmates. In the Metal Hammer review of Planet Earth , the sound was called "quite calm", yet "unexpectedly gloomy". In comparison, Mother's Army was "unimportant". When the debut was released, it was still rated as high quality, if not entirely up to date.

The lyrics on Fire on the Moon are about the thoughtless handling of the environment and the resulting catastrophes.
