Sixth Comm (sometimes also Six Comm or 6 Comm ) is a British music project that was founded in 1985.

history

First years

Sixth Comm was founded in 1985 by Patrick Leagas (Ex- Death in June ). He works for Sixth Comm under the pseudonym Patrick O'Kill. The first recordings were released in 1987 on the album A Nothing Life in the form of a tape cassette. This album contained alternate versions of tracks Leagas wrote for Death In June in 1984 and 1985 on one side and tracks from the new project on the other.

The release of the album went hand in hand with the founding of the Eyas Media and Kenaz (also Cenaz) labels, on which - in addition to the Sixth Comm albums - unauthorized Death-in-June albums were also released.

In May 1987 Sixth Comm released the LPs Content with Blood and Fruits of Yggdrasil and the EP The Taste for Flesh . The latter two are the result of a collaboration with the Dutch rune magician Freya Aswynn (civil: Elizabeth Hooijschuur), who at about the same time published the book Leaves of Yggdrasil (published in Germany under the name Die Blätter von Yggdrasil ), which was widely recognized in esoteric circles . A year later, the retrospective collection Turn of the Wheel appeared on the French label IN9 .

In 1989 Patrick Leagas met his future partner Amodali, who appeared on Maxi Paradise / Calling (1989) and the last official Sixth Comm albums Asylum (1990) and Seething (1990). Around the same time, the group's label and distribution went bankrupt. The album Morthogenisis , also released in 1990 and a collection of older tracks from 1985–1987, represents the temporary end of Sixth Comms.

Mother Destruction

Leagas and Amodali started over with the Mother Destruction project. While the first vinyl version of Seething was still released as a pure Sixth Comm album, Sixth Comm Becomes Mothers of Destruction or Sixth Comm / Mother Destruction was printed on the cover of subsequent editions.

Leagas said several times in interviews that Sixth Comm was constantly associated with Death In June, which often led to negative reactions in the music press. Especially singer Amodali had great difficulties with it, so that work on Sixth Comm was stopped. However, the label, with which Mother Destruction were now under contract, insisted on also performing Sixth Comm in addition to the new name in order to achieve better sales figures. The band did not remain completely true to their decision, however, because in 1993 the CD Gray Years was another Sixth Comm album with recordings from 1987 to 1992 - misleadingly with titles by Amodali that were released before their time with Sixth Comm have arisen.

After the 2000 Mother Destruction album Chemantra , Patrick Leagas and Amodali went their separate ways both musically and privately.

Revitalization and dissolution

Patrick Leagas announced a sixth comm revival some time later and from now on only calls the band 6 comm. In 2006 a double CD was released with Headless and new editions of the albums Content with Blood and Fruits of Yggdrasil . A new album called Godscite has already been announced. 6 Comm also appeared live again. A reunion concert with Freya Aswynn in London has been announced for 2009. In 2010 Sixth Comm gave a few more concerts under the motto "Last Farewell". On the band's official website, Patrick Leagas announced the end of Sixth Comm. In the future he would like to dedicate himself to new projects under new names instead, one of which will be weird music . However, further concerts and tours followed, as well as a sound carrier release in 2013. In 2014 Six Comm appeared again (after 2009 and 1995) at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig.

Style and texts

The albums of the 1980s are primarily to be assigned to the electro-wave environment and can be compared with the “Nada!” Era of Death in June . In the phase around 1990 Sixth Comm experimented increasingly with ritual and tribal house elements. More recent recordings usually have an experimental, electronic character. Recurring themes in Sixth Comms music are Norse mythology , runic magic , war and anti-Christianity.

In the supplement to the 1990 album Seething , Sixth Comm expressly distances itself from political motivation in the use of runes and other symbols that have been picked up by right-wing extremist organizations: "The perversion of runes and the distortion of concepts of God by right-wing extremist / racist organizations is therefore a source of concern for me and many others who sincerely seek the tradition and its further development as a magical system. Religion and politics usually have an unhealthy love affair, and I hope that more people will be inclined to explore the myths and magic of this system from an apolitical, unbiased perspective. "
