The Mothes Point is a headland on the east coast of Adelaide Island off the west coast of the Antarctic Graham Lands . It is located 11 km southwest of The Gullet in the Barlas Canal and marks the southern boundary of the entrance to Grosswald Bay .
The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped the headland based on its surveys carried out between 1948 and 1950 and using aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the German glaciologist Hans Mothes (1902-1989), who carried out the first seismic soundings of a glacier in Austria in 1926 .
