Motor skills (music)

Motor skills is a term used primarily by music journalists to describe the special Krautrock rhythm in 4/4 time . Motor skills was developed by the band Neu! Developed with producer Conny Plank and popularized by the piece Autobahn from the album of the same name (1974) by the band Kraftwerk . He is also present in the music of other Krautrock bands ( Can , Faust ) and is considered one of the trademarks of Krautrock.

A continuous pulsating rhythm that changes little or not at all for ten minutes or more is typical of motor skills .

The members of the band Neu! did not use the term. Klaus Dinger sometimes referred to the “New! Beat” as the “ Apache beat”. Motor skills are also present in the pieces of music by Devo , Stereolab and David Bowie .
